Apple has just released the iOS 18.2 developer beta, and it is shipped with new features that are useful for early adopters like “Apple intelligence”, but there are also other lesser-known additions to iOS 18.2 that are amazing.
Set default apps:
One of the nice features that comes with IOS 18.2 is freedom to set your own default apps for various categories – messaging, emailing, browsing…etc, which were previously restricted by your device. But now, Apple lets you choose new default apps in the following areas: web browsing, calling and call filtering, emailing, messaging, passwords and codes, and keyboards.
These choices can be managed in a new Default Apps section in the Settings app which makes it a easier to change your default apps with a few quick taps.
this feature is actually available to all users around the world even though apple said that this feature would be arriving only for EU users.
Delete default apps:
Apple has made it possible for EU users to delete the default applications that come with the operating system including “App Store, Safari, Messages, Camera and Photos. For US users, they can only hide them.
The only apps that EU users cannot delete are the Settings and Phone apps as any of Apple’s other apps can be re-downloaded from the App Installation section in the Settings app.
ChatGPT integration with Apple intelligence & Siri:
One of the great news is that Apple has integrated ChatGPT into Apple intelligence and Siri, so from now on you can disable the prompts where Siri asks for permission to send your data to ChatGPT. and also, you can direct all your Siri queries to ChatGPT by saying “Ask ChatGPT” at the start of your request, and also ask Siri to get ChatGPT to create an image for you, thus skip Siri’s own Image playground.
Use Apple’s Genmoji feature on devices that not compatible with Apple Intelligence:
As known, IOS 18.2 ships with Genmoji feature that lets you create your own Emoji using AI. Although devices that non compatible with Apple Intelligence cannot create this kind of emoji, they can receive them. Even more, they can save the received Genmoji to their emoji library and use them in messaging.
